Equality Objectives
The Equality Act 2010 covers all the types of discrimination that are unlawful. The Headteacher and governors of Greenleaf Primary School have established a clear vision, rooted in an unwavering commitment to ensure the success of every pupil. Equality of opportunity is at the heart of this vision to ensure that all pupils will do well.
Avoiding discrimination and promoting equality supports the agenda of improving the attainment and progress of all pupils, regardless of their circumstances and backgrounds.
The protected characteristics of the Equality Act are:-
• Age
• Disability
• Gender reassignment
• Marriage and civil partnership (applies to schools as employers)
• Pregnancy and maternity
• Race
• Religion or belief
• Sex
• Sexual orientation
Our approach to equality is based on the following key principles:
1. All learners are of equal value.
2. We recognise and respect difference.
3. We foster positive attitudes and relationships and a shared sense of cohesion and belonging.
4. We observe good equalities practice in staff recruitment, retention and development.
5. We aim to reduce and remove inequalities and barriers that already exist.
6. We have the highest expectations of all our children.
Equality Objectives 2023-2027
At Greenleaf we celebrate diversity and ensure equality of education and opportunity for all. Regardless of class, disability, ethnic origin, sex, sexuality, family make-up, belief (religious or non-religious), or any other individual special need, we value the wealth of different cultures that make up our Greenleaf community.
We review and update our equality objectives with regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty and we evaluate them as part of our school development plan. In order to further support children, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching, we have set the following objectives:
|
To narrow the gap between SEND/Pupil Premium pupils and other pupils so that they make accelerated progress in the core curriculum and are well prepared for the next stage in their education. |
|
All staff and children to actively challenge stereotypes.
|
|
To continue to diversify the curriculum to be more inclusive

• Ensure the school takes all reasonable steps to ensure that its employees do not carry out unlawful discriminatory actions or behaviour.
• Support and guide the school to have due regard for equality in all its functions.
• Ensure the school complies with the Equality Duty.
