All of the Year 3 staff would just like to say a huge thank you to all of the children and families for their extremely generous charity donation and gifts - we really appreciate it.  Parents, thank you for all of your support this year and children, thank you for always being so wonderful, so motivated and so enthusiastic! Have a wonderful break, Merry Christmas if you are celebrating and most importantly stay safe!  We look forward to seeing you all in the New Year! To further support the learning provided by your class teacher Oak National Academy is providing a collection of high-quality video lessons and online resources. Backed by the Government, it was created in response to the coronavirus lockdown and lessons from Reception to Year 6 can be found on here. This resource will also be useful if your child is self-isolating at home and can be used alongside the work set by your class teacher.

Reading

In the Autumn Term we want children to build up their enjoyment for reading as well as their reading stamina. You can support this by ensuring your child reads every day, reading together whether this be the same book or both reading your own book, talking to your child about what they enjoyed about their book and model an enthusiasm for books and reading.

Your child should bring in their Accelerated Reading book in every day. Please make sure that children are reading for 30 minutes every day at home.

Dear parents,

As you know, children in KS2 at Greenleaf are using Accelerated Reader to quiz on books they have read. It is a fantastic system, which carefully monitors children's reading ages and progress, motivating them to take ownership over their own reading. It is important to remember however, AR data only forms part of the reading assessment teacher's will make about children in their class. Below is a link to a branch of AR called Home Connect: this will give parents the opportunity to log into their child's account to monitor from home. (You will need your child's username and password to do this.) Once logged in, you will be able to access your child's quizzing history, see their average for questions answered correctly, as well as seeing which reading level (ZPD/ATOS) they are currently reading at.

A gentle reminder - please encourage your child to read for 30 minutes every day at home; studies have shown this makes a huge difference in their reading age - and also supports writing massively as well.

Spellings

Continue to work through the word walls and pick 3 or 4 words each week depending on your child`s ability and enthusiasm to learn them. They should practice writing them in a sentence or a story as this is when children often misspell words. We also recommend playing games with the words such as Hangman, Dictionary Dash, Silly Stories. These are all games the children play in school.

Times Table Rockstars - Continue to use this at least three times a week. We will continue to update the times tables that they will work on each week.  If you have access to Numbergym, please continue to use this to work on number bonds, etc.

Oxford Owls have also created a booklet with lots of tips, tricks and games to help you learn your times tables.

We have created a handy help sheet to give you a step by step guide on how to do column addition and subtraction if you get stuck.
